Region: Varginha, Minas Gerais
Producer: Leonardo Toledo de Resende
Farm: Fazenda do Rosário
Introducing an award-winning coffee grown on farmer Leonardo Toledo de Resende’s farm Fazenda Laje. Every year since 1993 the coffee grower’s cooperative Minasul has hosted a coffee quality competition to promote its more than 6,000 members, and this year Leonardo won second place in the Pulped Natural category! The competition has helped stimulate quality improvement amongst the group’s producers. Members submitted their best coffees which were evaluated and scored by a team of certified coffee tasters who whittle down the submissions to 30 finalists in two categories: Natural and Pulped Natural. We bid on our favorite lot and were happy to have our offer accepted.
The Minasul cooperative was founded in 1958 in the municipality of Varginha, which is located in the south of Minas Gerais state. Members live in 150 cities in the region including: Varginha, Cambuquira, Carmo da Cachoeira, Conceição do Rio Verde, Oliveira and Capelinha. The co-op maintains a technical department with agronomists committed to the sustainability and development of the member’s farms and a lab with six certified tasters to evaluate coffee.
