Our first new crop arrival of the season from Ethiopia. Kochere is a coffee growing area within the famous Yirgacheffe region. Kochere is just southwest of the town of Yirga Cheffe, which is located in Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone. Grown by smallholders in the region and processed at the Bonde washing station, this coffee is meticulously sorted three ways to improve consistency and remove defects. The coffee is graded by screen size, color sorted and finally sorted by hand. Our supplier calls this coffee “YirgZ” because it hails from the Yirgacheffe region and is graded so it has zero physical defects. A group of women are paid three times the average wage as an incentive for the attention to detail needed for hand sorting of this coffee.
