Presenting the second of two coffees from Rwanda we are offering this season. This lot represents a newly established relationship with the women’s coffee growing cooperative Nyampinga. The word Nyampinga has a nuanced translation that refers to the coming of age of a young woman who is proud, beautiful and respected in her community.

Since 2013 the women of Nyampinga have been working on improving the quality of their coffee through a training program funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, in collaboration with our import partners Sustainable Harvest. In November 2015, members of the Equator team traveled to Rwanda to visit the co-op to see firsthand all of the group’s accomplishments. It is impressive to see the strides taken in such a short time – from selling coffee cherries at low prices to establishment of their own wet mill and making connections with roasters across the world. This is the first coffee the cooperative has exported to the United States and we are happy to be able to offer it to our customers.
